Flora in Winter

The art museum near us does a flower event every winter: https://www.worcesterart.org/events/flora-in-winter/
My wife and I look forward to going every year and look forward to it.

The tickets were for members only, timed, and very limited in number. So, we decided to go despite the worries of Covid and variants.
Hopefully our antibodies from having it have not yet worn off.
It was a beautiful day and we had a nice breakfast and then went into Worcester.

Soon, we were at the museum.

As is out habit, we walked up to the 4th floor and work our way down. It’s been a year and I think the 4th floor is up higher than before…
For most of them they have cell codes for info, so I’ve go them too.

Despite few folks in the museum, there are still folks who spend a lot of time hovering over the exhibits. This woman stood there and called someone else on her phone to describe the flowers while we maintained 6 feet clearances.

But, she was better than this one who spent more than 5 minutes hovering in front of this one. (My photos were time stamped, so it isn’t just what it felt like…)

I’m not sure this one was a good match.

Of course, there are cool things that don’t get flowers.

This one I thought was good match.

This one started by ordering you about.

My wife went to school for art. I went to school for engineering. So, I describe this as "Nude woman on wheels" and am told that isn’t the correct name.

There are accidental things that I think work well too. The reflection from the modern exhibit shows up on the door of the colonial exhibit and makes a nice mix.

This one is supposed to match the painting in the upper right. I think the other folks looking at it match the painting better…

This one was the one my wife and I thought was the best match. It was in an exhibit hall where photos weren’t allowed, so you don’t actually see this…

This one, flowers to represent flowers, seemed like they were a bit too literal.

It was one of the more crowded galleries…

I thought this one was fairly close.

But, maybe it’s just that I like the pharaoh’s face in the painting.

This one didn’t have flowers to go with it, but I was surprised. You’d think they’d be able to do something with those sleeves!

This one was OK.

They did two for the Japanese print exhibit with the kimono.

Of course, some don’t go with specific pieces.

To give you an idea of the difference Covid made, the one on the left is this year, the one on the right from 2014..

It’s always a bit strange when they try and match flowers to armor.

I thought this was the subject of these flowers, but it was the painting to their right.

I have to say, this might be the saddest depiction of love I’ve seen.

What’s my wife doing sitting on the bench?!? That’s my job!

This one was OK.

Another OK.

Look! A sword!

I like The Doctor (Peter Capaldi version) plays chess, but I didn’t think the flowers were a good match.

I’d swear I met this guy. But, I’ve never been to Ecuador. My wife said it was painted 200 years ago too…

I don’t know, got the colors, but I don’t think the shape…

My wife and I like this one, and have said that before…

Another compare, this year on left, 2012 on the right.

They even put flowers in the bathrooms…

I’ve always liked this map of the trade routes…

Two rooms of things is all that’s left of the museum where my wife and I used to do the historical shows. I’m told there will eventually be more, but who knows when?

Yeah… There is a lot tied up in this one for me…

Ooo, a crowd!

My wife was underwhelmed with this one.

But, I did have a conversation with the woman in the red coat about how this other one was outside of our expectation for something painted in 1918.

This is something I consider sad in art. This guy must have paid a lot for this statue to be remembered. But, 2000 years later "man with beard" is all that is known. All that effort to be remembered and it didn’t work…

Not sure I get Caligula out of these flowers…

The museum had a harp player starting at 1. I might have gotten a later slot if I knew that…

"The Worcester Hunt"! I used to live in Worcester! I’m a Hunt! Yet, they refuse to turn this over to me…

Not sure I see this one.

This one was interesting.

Another that wasn’t that clear to us.

Yeah, we could use more of this.

Yeah, I guess you’ve got the arm there…

Then, back to where we started…

Even the shop had some flowers in it.

I asked the woman in the shop if she needed to see my membership card for the discount.
"The advantage to days they only allow members in is I don’t need to see it," she said.
Very true…
Then, back into the brilliant day.

As I so often note, the place my wife and I met is across the street from the museum. (The house up on the right…)

Afterwards we stopped to get some sandwiches and I noted the car with a helicopter over it and the plane over that and thought: not enough color…

This exhibit wasn't the best year they've had. But, it had a huge advantage of being the first thing we've gone to in a long time.
Perhaps the flowers were harder to get with all going on. But, it seemed less colorful than normal.
I'm still very glad we went and enjoyed it a lot.
