With two people doing it, I can't resist.

From my wife:

Leave me a comment and I will reply with why I like you. If I don't know you, I'll either make something up or tell you why I like your LiveJournal**. You must pay for the privilege by posting a message like this one on your LiveJournal.

**If I don't know you and/or don't read your LJ... introduce yourself.

The short answer is: I like your enthusiasm.

The longer answer is: When I went to my first ren faire, back in the 80’s, it was a really special experience. Over the years, and especially after I started working them, it became less special. Still fun. Still worth going to. But, not as “magical” as it was 20 years ago. It didn’t, often, have that “wow” factor it did back then.
But, you’ve still got the wow. And, seeing you with the wow helps me to remember it myself. And, helps me remember that one of the reasons we perform at faires is to give people that. So, your enthusiasm gives me something to shoot for. To say “we need to impress people like that. How are we going to do it?”

Well, now I'm all confused. Do you want a long answer or a short answer?

I still don't know what a "Nate length answer" is, but I'll give it a shot.

Honesty.

Last year when stuff was melting down for me one of the things I was told was "the people in the troupe don't count as your friends because you're their boss. Everyone is nice to their boss, so you think they are your friends, but they're just being nice to you because of that."
You were my main counter argument.
(Honestly, I don't think anyone in the troupe is nice to me just because I run it. I hope not. That certainly isn't what I want. And, you aren't the only one, by far, in the troupe willing to do it. But, you do draw the shortest line between my asking and your answer.)

And, don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to be called a fuck up. I don't enjoy that.
But, if I fuck something up, I don't want to be told it's good either.
And, I know if I ask you, you'll tell me what you think.
I won't always agree. I won't always be happy with it.
But, I know you'll call if for what it is.
And, I deeply appreciate that.

Your talent.
You put a lot of work into your art. That is illustration as well as living history. And, I'm not saying it isn't a lot of work.
But, it's backed by a large amount of talent.
To a point, work can make up for talent. But, only to a point. At some point, if you don't have the talent, you can't go any farther, no mater how hard you work.
And, you've got the talent to keep going. Not everyone does.
To be clear: I do think everyone has some talent they can tap. But, you've got it in cool things.
