Trip to England, day 13
Jun. 9th, 2019 10:04 amSunday we got up and took the Underground down to the Thames.
The city of London seems hollow as there is a lot of empty space under the streets.

I did stop and look at the Queen Boadicea statue. I’m a big fan of her work…

We did see that large Benjamin.
The times the boat rides began were not the times the ticket booth opened. So, we had to wait a bit there.

When we got there, it was pretty empty. It was nice to sit there and look around.

It was a nice time to look around. Even with the ever present planes over head.

Then, several tour busses showed up and it started to get crowded.

I did take up position in front of the ticket booth when it seemed like it should open from the website.

I understand how a bagpiper could make money playing on the bridge.

I’m less sure how this person makes money.

Eventually we got on a boat.

We sailed up the river by famous landmarks.

As we went under the "Ladies Bridge", these two women threw roses down on our boat. No idea why.

We passed the Globe theater. I got a better look at it this time.

We saw what we were assured was a pirate ship.

Past the tower and its bridge

The bridge didn’t open for us.

The planes went over.

A warehouse for our sword troupe?

We saw the place my family sailed out of 399 years ago. I’m told the statue has a list of all their names.

Eventually we got to Greenwich.

There were Morris Dancers there. Sometimes I wonder if they follow us around.

They had other boats there too.

We went to the park that had the observatory.

When you climb the hill to the observatory you get a good view.

It’s a nice place.

I wanted to stand on the prime meridian with one foot in the eastern hemisphere and one foot in the western. But, the museum was 16 pounds each to get into and there wasn’t much I wanted to see other than that line.
I did find it extended over the wall and onto the (free) garden path.
So, I got the photo I wanted.

And, of course, I had to stop and post it.

We then visited the gardens.

Then, back down the hill into Greenwich.

We stopped at the "first store in the world".

We did stop for the "traditional" pie and eels.

I didn’t really like it much. But, maybe that was the gravy.
We decided to take a boat back rather than the Underground.

It was not the fastest boat you could get.

But, it did give a nice view.

Good on these folks for rowing up the river!

There were some big waves.

Our hotel was near the television tower in the middle. This makes it look close. But, it is only because that tower is very large.

Every time I go through these photos I say "Why is there a big play button there? This isn’t a video."

My wife does like castles…

There was a good bit of wind on the river.

Back in port.

Once back to the center of the city, we went to the Forbidden Planet science fiction store. We didn’t buy this Enterprise…

Then walking about and more Underground.

It’s nice they put the food for the flying horse where it can get it.

Then, we went to see the Godzilla movie.
I did get a medal out of it for Pokeman.
