We got a quick breakfast at Whole Foods.
I find it funny that Stroopwaffles have followed my wife home from the Netherlands.

Clearly they didn’t follow me or they would have been here 5 years ago.

We set off reasonably early. Since rush hour was still going I took back roads. But, found them under construction.

Given how often that particular underpass floods, it is worth it.

Directions to the Pequot museum are straightforward. The signs aren’t.

But, we got there.

It is a very well done museum that they have put a LOT of effort into.

And, they have benches…

The tower interested some a lot.

You do get a good view from there, even if you don’t have a quarter.

There was one quarter to be had, but it was not used.

You can certainly see the casino that pays for the museum from there.

It hard to see the zip line that runs all the way from there to the museum. We did not go on it. I wasn’t bringing them through the casino just to jump off the building…

They still enjoyed the view.

You can tell a museum that was designed with the idea of renting the space from the beginning.

There was a lot of interest in the tribal seal.

The tribe is not big these days.

We started the museum by watching a movie on the Pequot war in the 1630’s. My family was involved in that war on the English side, even if not a lot.
The Pequot lost. Their tribe was destroyed and it was declared that the name Pequot never be used again.
This of course makes me want to run around shouting "Pequot" just to make sure it does get used as much as possible.
But, that just shows that I’m contentious and don’t get along with any generation of my family.

They have artifacts going back thousands of years and very recent. There was amusement that modern cameras made the cut.

It really is a very good museum. If you’re in the area, check it out.

Gabriele was very impressed with the detail put into the displays.

She was also able to tell me where the sushi cuts should be for every fish on display.

Then, back to the ice age. They totally had escalators then…

This display of how thick the ice was shows a replica of the museum we were in down at the bottom center.

They have the stories of many tribes there, not just their own.

The diorama on caribou hunting was of particular interest.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen Ben look into a museum display with such attention to detail. He read every sign, watches all the videos and looked at every display.

I was very happy to see him so interested.

He especially seemed to like the one where you could put your arm in the caribou sleeve to see what the clothes felt like. It was very soft.

I’m normally the one on the bench…

And, they were both interested in many different parts of the museum.

They also have a full size diorama of a village you can walk through. Assuming you follow the rules.

We got the audio descriptions as they don’t have signs in the diorama.

It’s quite large.

They do a better job than some museums I know of reporting the events. The events are not happy ones. But, they are more of "this is what happened" than trying to spin it one way or another. I certainly like that better.

We did walk about a lot.

But, as we went to leave, one of the museum guards said "you missed our modern art exhibit! Let me show you were it is!" and led us over to it.
Such enthusiasm in museum staff is rare.

And, it was a cool exhibit and they had some cool stuff.

We did almost convince Ben the circle of light was a piece of modern art.

It was eventually pointed out that the circle was not charcoal and gel pens, so the piece was just missing.

We all liked this one.

Ben seemed to like the more colorful ones.

I have to admit, we weren’t sure about the title.

We had planned to do a second museum. But, by the time we got out of the Pequot there wouldn’t be enough time before the second one closed. So off towards home we went.

We stopped at a clam shack we know on the way for a late lunch.

The clouds had been confused, but waited for us at home.

In the evening we went to see Ant Man and The Wasp. We went to a full dinner movie theater where they bring your dinner to you as you sit in nice recliners.
