It’s historical...
Sep. 24th, 2008 11:35 amLast night we did the first of the new series of Historical practices we’re having. I mostly worked with
There is some good stuff in there.
The Talhoffer has been once again judged “too deadly for a show” by us. It does look like duel to the death stuff, so I’m not surprised.
Meyer still has putting swords through people’s head and such, but it isn’t usually quite so deadly about it. It has “hit him in the arm” not “cut his arm off”. Maybe a subtle destinction, but important for a show.
That’s worth considering. We’ll have to see how it works out.
Instead of just going through the manuals in order, we'd look through them until we found something we thought was cool to try. That's much less systematic then the old Higgin's guild way. But, for what we're using it for it seems to work. The problem is it can be very hard to tell what is really cool without trying it.
But, it is still a good way to come up with new (to us) moves.
I was very happen when I suggested a way to do something and
It's not like any of us really know how they did it. We follow the instructions they left as best we can.
Hopefully we come up with something good out of it.
