The Mobile Ren Faire

Last Thursday morning we set off for Mobile Alabama. But, before spending 6 days on the trip, we decided we should get our Turkey for this Thursday so we didn’t have to fight the crowds today.

Even with that, by 8AM we were on the road.

By 9:30 we picked up Ian who was driving down with us.

The rain and clouds were on and off.

But, bad traffic was pretty constant.

We still got to New York and continued south.

Not that we left the traffic behind.

We made Washington DC about sunset.

Washington has high speed lanes they charge extra for. I’m against the concept of rich people get to go faster, but doing so saved us at least an hour of traffic.

It was after midnight we went through Atlanta.

And, later still we took the final highway south.

Not wanting to get to the faire site before sunrise, we stopped for breakfast.

I like Waffle House.

Sun was coming up as we stopped at the last rest area.

But, it was foggy.

We can say Phoenix Swords goes to the end of the earth for our shows.

We got there about 8AM.

We found Sadie and where we should set out.

It didn’t take too long to get set up.

Then, back over the River Styx to get Tom.

The hotel was very nice and let us check in 3 hours early. I do think that a broken open safe with a white powder under the stairs might have a story. But, I don’t know it.

So, off to dinner we went, even at 1PM.

I fell asleep at 2 and slept through to 5 Saturday morning. I was tired.
Saturday we got up and went for breakfast.

I guess eating rolled up ham is very good.

Off to the faire we went. A lot more tents had been set up since we had been there.

We did our shows.

It was hot. At least for us.
So, I used my new iPhone fan.

We met up with some of our friends for dinner.

Sunday we found there had been a big wind storm over night and a bunch of tents had been destroyed.

Ours was fine. Some of our folks helped out with the destroyed ones.

Then, more shows.

There was a lot of whip snapping until headaches were reached.

Our fire show was at sunset, but we didn’t get photos.

We packed things up before the fire show, so had things loaded quickly afterwards.

We couldn’t fit everyone in the car, so I dropped my wife and Ian off at the hotel and went back to get Tom.
There was a big traffic jam on the way.

But, it wasn’t too late we all had dinner.

Monday morning, frost on the car.

Traffic was no better going north.

We stopped at a gas station that reminded me of the one Phoenix Swords member who has died. So, I drank a toast to him there.

And, we did get dinner eventually.

There are gas stations in Virginia that say they are 24 hour, but are liars.

Dawn as we got back to New England.

I don’t understand this sign.

It’s good to be home.

3014 miles round trip. That’s about 5,000 kilometers.

Glad we’re all home.
