fbhjr: Eclipse (Eclipse)
[personal profile] fbhjr

We’ve known Mike and Dave for a long time. Honestly, I don’t remember exactly how long as it predates my keeping such records.
Mike was the friend of two of my roommates in college. So, I’d guess we’ve known him since the early 80’s.
We’ve known Dave since he and Mike got together.
Since they were at our wedding, that was more than 23 years ago…

They moved out to Seattle about 10 years ago and we haven’t seen them in person since.
So, since we were transferring through Seattle to get to the eclipse, I made sure we had an extra day to stop by and see them.

My wife, very smartly, asked me a couple of weeks ago: “You have told them we’re coming, right?”
I hadn’t.
But, they were free that day, so it all worked out.
(I forget that although I’ve been thinking of going to see this eclipse for more than 5 years, not everyone knows that… Just for the record, I’m already working on plans for the one in 2024…)

They live on the north side of the city, near where my rental car would have been, so it was a bit of a drive up to see them. (The drive was when I argued with the Delta person about $400…)

There seem to be interesting things around Seattle.

They had said not to show up too early, and we got there faster than I expected, so we stopped at a Whole Foods and picked up snack things for the long drive the next day.

Then, off to Mike and Dave’s!

They have two very nice dogs. One was a rescue that went through horrible things before they got him. I really think they must be dog heaven for that poor dog as he now lives a very nice life.

We went off to lunch at an Indian place near where they live, and then checked out a gaming store nearby.

At the Indian place, we had the bread with cherries in it. Never had that variation before.

While interesting, don’t think I’ll cross the continent just to get more…

I really like the gaming store because they have a bunch of games in their library that you can just borrow and try. So, we sat on the side walk in front of the place and played Dixit.

After trying the games, we headed down the steep hill towards the sea.

It’s only a couple of miles, and not bad downhill. I’m glad I don’t have to climb back up on my own…

When we got there, there were pirates.

Apparently we can’t go on trips without pirates. Don’t know why.

And, yes, you could just say they were historic ships sailing about. But, they were firing cannon and looked like they were getting ready for boarding at times.

It was a very nice spot with a great view.

You’ve got roads, boats and trains all right there. So, I guess you can get around if needed.
The trains there are very long.

Glad I don’t have to cross those tracks to get where I’m going.

It wasn’t clear how cold the water was. Some folks were scuba diving with wet suits, some folks just swimming in bathing suits.

So, I assume warm on the surface, but gets cold fast in the deeper water.

We went back to their place and had a very nice visit with them and their dogs.

In the evening we went out for sushi at a place near their house.

They had some interesting items that you don’t get here on the other coast.

We were still on East Coast time, so by the time dinner was over it was the equivalent of past midnight for us, and we still had to drive back to the hotel.
So, we dropped them off and headed back.

It was a nice visit and I’m really glad we stopped to see them.
Hopefully it won’t be as long before we get to see them again.
