My wife and I decided to go to the New York Ren faire to get some new swords.
We set off fairly early.

The traffic wasn’t bad going across Connecticut. That’s pretty rare.

Even going through the mountains was fairly quick.

And, you do get a nice view.

But, my wife’s traffic app said there was a big traffic problem on the way ahead.
So, we got off the highway and started taking the back roads around New York.

It was a nice drive through some nice towns.

Then, over the Bear Mountain Bridge over the Hudson River.

I like the toll booth there.

Then, more scenic roads.

Then, we were there,

It’s a big faire. Sort of like the Disney of Ren faires.

We went right to the sword maker we were there to see. We bought some swords and then went over to see the Iron Hill Vagabonds.

We’ve known them for years, and hired them for some of the shows we’ve done. Good guys.

While I was there I pondered our sword purchase. I realized we had been billed too much for the swords. So, I went back over and checked. I was right, they charged us $160 more than they should have.
I got it fixed and then went back to the show.

Then, my wife and I wandered around the faire some. We did stop on the "kissing bridge".

We saw the queen, but didn’t stop to talk…

15 years ago at that faire I found a pair of low boots I really liked. But, I’ve never seen them again. Another pair has long been on my wish list of things to get.
Today, I found another pair. The first I’ve seen in 15 years. They had 1 pair left in my size.
Yay.

After a couple of hours we set out home again.

We were very glad we came early when we saw the line of folks still arriving.

So, we took to the back roads again.

This time we drove through Bear Mountain Park. It’s very nice…

There are places the road is very roller coaster like.

Eventually we reached the Hudson river and drove north along it across the river from the nuclear plant that feeds New York City.

Then, back over Bear Mountain Bridge.

The bridge in NYC is $10.50 to $15 to go across depending on how you pay and when you go.
The Tappan Zee bridge 10 miles north of that is $5.
But, this bridge was only $1.50.
That’s a nice price…

It’s quite a road…

At the top of the hill is a scenic area that has a great view.

It seems like it would be a great place to live. Except that nuclear plant…

Eventually we got back to the main highways.

We stopped for linner once we crossed into CT.
It was Octoberfest night at the restaurant…

After dinner, we headed for home.

And, then home.

Looks like a fun day. I love getting off the freeways and driving though small towns, if I have the time.

its been a few years since the last time i went to the renfest up here. ours is a pretty big one.

glad you caught the incorrect price and got it fixed! thats a lot of money.

and glad you found the boots you like after all this time!

pretty views.

i'm so not used to toll roads. we have a couple high traffic spots where you can choose to pay to use the lanes designated for carpool only. those are the only tolls we have. and they're optional. you can stay in the regular lanes and not pay a dime.

Great pictures. I haven't gotten a chance to get to the Faire this year, so it's nice to live vicariously through you. Also, I've never been to Bear Mountain, it looks so pretty, I'm going to have to check it out!
