The final plans for returning our god kids weren't done until fairly late in the week. But we did work it out with their parents.
So, Saturday morning we got up fairly early and were on the road just after 7.

Everyone was wide awake and excited to be going to New York City.

We got there about 10:30.

Then, it was a question of what to see.

The kids wanted to see mummies, so we went over to the Egyptian hall.

My favorite is the "Scroll of the Dead" which has magic spells to use to get into heaven if you might not have made the cut. It is quite long.

Should I worry that my goddaughter decided to take notes there?

Then, off to the relocated temple they have there.

This turned out to be Pokemon city and we all caught things we’d never even seen before.

Except those who have yet to take up the game and waited.

Gabriele wanted to see "that big grey stone thing with hieroglyphics on it."
That is a good description of half the wing. But, my wife knew what she meant.

Then, we went to the "fashion and technology" special exhibit.

My wife was not overly happy at the rate at which the rest of us went through it, so we waited on this lovely bench.

And, discussed which Pokemon Saint Stephen was putting in his Pokedex.

This too was a place with many Pokemon.

About that time, the kid’s dad texted to say they arrived. Everyone was happy to hear this news.

We met up at the cafeteria and had lunch.

Then, back to the galleries.
I think this version of Saint George bored the dragon to death.

Ben spent two minutes going on about how this guy looked like he was wearing high heels, then finally said "Wait! He’s black!"

There was much discussion of the white washing of Egyptian history and how it goes back much farther than Hollywood.

Alan specifically requested we look at the African wing, so that’s where we headed.

There was a lot of discussion about what it would take to wear this mask.

This is a very ornate drinking horn.

They also liked the Polynesian section.

It was a nice visit.

But, it was time to go our separate ways. We passed over the kid’s luggage and then headed back onto the streets of NYC.

The sometimes hard to get around streets.

And up the parkway north.

For once, the roads through Connecticut weren’t all that bad.
But, there was a big slow down at the tunnel.

As there wasn’t any other reason, it must be folks are afraid of the dark.

Haven’t see it that bad since Wales.

As we got closer to home we could see that some storms had gone through the area.

You could just see a rainbow, but it didn’t photograph well.

It was a good trip. And, a good visit with the kids.
Today we’re resting and doing laundry. Both of these things are needed.

We try not to repeat museums unless there is something special to show them.
The only museum we repeated this year was The Met in New York. That was because last year their parents got stuck in traffic and didn't make it there to meet us. (We met at a rest stop on the highway instead.)
So, this year it was more for their parents than them. And,that is a huge museum so there were many things they didn't see last year.

After years of them visiting, we are starting to run out of museums. Or, museums that we think will have any interest at all for them. (I like the grandfather clock museum, but I know it will bore them...)

So, I'm not sure what will go on in years to come. But, so far we have been able to keep going to new museums. (There are a great many museums around us...)

perhaps you can switch from museums to amusement parks for a change :o) I'll bet they would love it!

We have offered amusement parks as an option for them, and they haven't shown much interest in it.
Even in Boston we had to talk them into getting on the carousel, and then they complained about how dizzy it made them.
We asked if their parents were going to take them to Disney again and they said "we've been there. No reason to go back."

So, not kids who are big on rides.

That museum looks like it has a lot of cool stuff. I'd like to see the African stuff, it looks cool. I have seen Egyptian stuff but I wouldn't mind seeing more of it. That scroll looks amazing!
