Hot night

It was 94F/34C today.
Our air-conditioning at home had to run so much the circuit breaker over heated and shut off.
And, once that happens it is doom. Now whenever I try and run the air-conditioning it as to catch up to where it should be and overheats.
It's down to 80/27 here now that it is 9:20 at night.
I've turned it back on again and hope it won't shut down again.
We'll see...

good luck with the a/c.

I don't have mine in the windows yet as I cannot lift them alone. I am planning to get them in maybe tomorrow or friay night.

Eeek!

One of the few benefits of being in the basement is that I can pretty much turn the A/C off during the day when I'm out and the place is still tolerable when I get home.

is your a/c on its own dedicated circuit?

perhaps a larger circuit breaker needs to be installed so it quits tripping it. circuit breakers tend to trip when more power is being pulled thru it than its designed to handle. if you've got a 40 amp circuit breaker, put in a 50 amp one. my a/c is on a 50 amp breaker that takes up the space of two circuit breakers in the box.

you may need to hose off the outside of the a/c unit. when that white cotton fluff stuff goes thru the air it gets sucked into the units and blocks their ability to pull in air.

or something may be wrong with the a/c unit itself causing it to suddenly be trying to draw more power, like a short or a malfunction.

hope you can get it sorted out! being without a/c sucks!

It is on a dedicated circuit.
Sadly, our lease specifically calls out we are not to do any work like replacing circuit breakers. I agree with what you say, it must be very close to the rated value.
If it happens again today, I'll complain to the rental company. But, my wife and I both hate having folks in the apartment when we aren't there...

Yes, you've reminded me to note in my diary to get my A/C serviced before summer this year. Thanks for that.

I hope your a/c is fixed now!
