New Jersey show: Getting there

It is normally a 5 to 6 hours drive to go the 300miles/500km to the show in New Jersey.
That means if I wait until I normally get home from work, we’re lucky to get there before midnight.
So, I left work at noon and we got on the road just after 1PM.
And, ran right into a traffic jam. At 1PM.
So, we got off of the highway and went to secondary roads and their pig busses.

We got to the next highway and it wasn’t bad.

We got to Hartford only 1/2 hour late.

But, in southern Connecticut things got more confused.

And, traffic worse.

We did see what looked like the set of Deadpool.

Traffic was slow enough that the folks in these two trucks were passing bags of chips back and forth to each other.

(We couldn’t get a photo of the actual pass…)
Then, we hit New York City. Traffic was so bad that even Google gave up showing the roads or traffic.

And, it was bad.

I thought once we were past the big merge things would get better. They didn’t.

Eventually, Google loaded the maps. But, the news wasn’t good.

I thought once we got past the accident things would get better. They didn’t.

When going through the tunnel we found that one of the cars was nice enough to bring an airhorn to share with everyone. Because what isn’t better than crawling traffic on a hot summer day with no way to get out of it and someone blowing an airhorn?
It was this guy.

When we came out of the tunnel, there was a strange bunch of balloons that came from the south and hovered over our lane. While it was over us, traffic was better.

But, we lost them when we went under a bridge.

After a couple of hours we crossed from the Bronx onto Manhattan island.

Strangely we found a woman eating pizza on the divider between north and south. No car that was stopped to let her in or out. No idea where the pizza came from.

Finally, after more than 3 hours to go the 12 miles/20km, we got to the boarder to New Jersey.

It was not one of my best visits to NYC.

It was nice to see New Jersey. Don’t say that often.

Then, we ran south along the side of Manhattan on the NJ shore.

We were still on the road when the sun went down, even though four days after the longest day.

We got to the hotel about 9:30. So, 8 1/2 hours for what should be a 5 hour drive.
But, we got there.
Yay.
