Practice

It was a nice day, but cooler.

Last week we popped the nails on our new pole arms, so I had to repair them.

I won’t lie, they’re ugly now. But, you’d have to cut them apart.

At least the flowers are starting to come up.

Sadly, that means the bugs are coming back too.
We tried to use our bug repelling candles, but didn’t have any lighters.

(Yeah, a group that does fire shows didn’t have lighters. That’s because we keep them all locked up away from the fuel. And, we put them in storage…)

Anyhow, only John showed up for practice, so we practiced with John.

Sadly when I was practicing dagger with him, I got one in the arm.

The good news is that we use blunted daggers. There is no doubt that if we used sharp ones it would have gone in one side of my arm and out the other. As it is, I’ve only got a bruise down to the bone…

But, show must go on and all that, right?

I did teach him a different way to block that won’t push my dagger back into my other arm. I’m sure nothing bad will happen again.

While we were practicing, on the far side of the yard two young ground hogs were chasing each other around.

They were very cute.

i've never seen a groundhog outside of tv for groundhog day.

if your cars had lighters you could have rolled up a piece of paper and lit it on fire from the car lighter and transfer it to the candle. but not all cars come with lighters anymore since most people use that thing for charging phones.

Groundhogs are fairly common around here. They are skittish so you usually see them at a distance. But, they're a fair number of them out there.

I thought about the car lighters. But, the actual lighter part has become lost. I'm sure the car had one once as my mother in law used to smoke and dated a person who smoked, and we inhertied the car from her.
But, we've had it 6 years now, and we don't smoke. So, it's had phone chargers in it since then and who knows where the lighter is?

My arm is still a bit sore, but it's OK. These things happen. He wasn't doing anything wrong, it was just the way we were placed that one time.

Ground hogs can be mean, so not good pets. They are cute, but at a distance.

Yeah, you do have cute ones there. One of the zoos near Melbourne has a "pet the wombat" thing. We're thinking of putting that on the list of things to do when we visit.

I watched a video of Punxsutawney Phil. He did not look very friendly at all.

That's a great idea, wombats are awesome. They are great diggers, can run very fast and have hard heads :)

I tried to garden when I was in college, but all I managed to accomplish was creating a salad garden for the groundhog that I hadn't realized was living under our bulkhead. =(
