University sword fighting

We got up reasonably early yesterday and drove the 2 1/2 hours up to Plymouth State in New Hampshire.
It’s a nice drive.

It’s up in the mountains and very nice.

Tom, who lives in New Hampshire, actually beat us there. So, was able to help us set up the tent once we arrived.

The organizer have us a nice spot on the green to set up.

We soon were all set up. As it was a VERY nice spring day we only put one side on the tent and left half open.

(Originally it had been forecast to be damp. I’m glad that turned out to be wrong.)
We were only scheduled for one show, but for 45 minutes. That meant we’d have time to do pretty much all our historical material. So, we practiced.

My wife tells me she was not doing "river dance".

But, she did go touching the trebuchet.

Although we had a roped off area, they gave us extra warning.

With only one show, and not wanting to be banging swords together while others were performing, there was a fair bit of waiting.

There was another group there also somewhat derived from the old Higgins group.

They’d done a fair bit of wood work for us over the years and we had a long discussion over the shafts of halberds.

I’m told that they are doing the Silver Kingdoms faire this year instead of us. But, as Silver Kingdom’s stiffed us for pay last time, I’m OK with that…
As I said, we didn’t bang swords together when other folks were performing.
But, there were folks who seemed to think it was OK to sing while other folks were performing. Including us.

As the weather was nice, we did actually bring out some of our books that we use for material.

And, we did our show.

We did run into a problem with the coconut we crack with the halberd.

When I cracked it open, milk did not come out like normal. Instead a powdery smoke came out.
I think it was some sort of cursed zombie coconut.

The show ended and we went back to waiting for the end of the day.

I brought my video sunglasses so Tom and I could video our fight from the sword person’s point of view.

I’ll put them on Youtube later…
We did have a few people stop by for sword lessons. She had first dressed at a character from Lord of the Rings, then one from Game of Thrones.

But, she wanted to learn something closer to what Inigo from The Princess Bride uses.

My wife gave a sword lesson from a book of monk’s sword fighting to someone dressed as a monk.

Then,it was time to pack up and head home.

John rode with us. We were very lucky that his wife dropped him off and picked him up again as it saved us 3 more hours of driving on top of the 5 we already had to do.
So, we waited with him for her to show up.

All in all, a good day.
