About that hydroponics store

As we drove home from the museum today my wife and I were talking about the new hydroponics store across the street from us.


"It’s strange," I said. "I never thought of it as a big hobby around here."
"It’s for growing pot," my wife said. "Now that it is being legalized there are going to be a lot more places doing things to grow it."
"That’s what it’s for?"
"I can’t say for sure, but that’s pretty likely."

That had never occurred to me.
I do not, and never have, smoked anything.
I’m far too allergic to too many things to have even tried.
So, I’ve got no idea of how the crop is grown.

Maybe I need to rethink my daydreams of growing carrots in the Star Trek way…

I have read that people grow tomatoes with hydroponics.

Unless one wants decent tomatoes in the 10 months in which they cannot be grown outside, here in MA.

Yep.

And many of them get raided by the drug warriors, and get at least their hydroponics system- if not their entire house and cars- confiscated, when all they are growing is tomatoes. Not to mention the joy of a home-invasion SWAT team raid in the wee hours, because you wanted decent tomatoes in the winter...

You should here some of the radio commercials in other states where it's legal.

In the state where I live, Massachusetts, they didn't make it legal. They just stopped it from being illegal.

So, unlike some of the stories in other comments above, folks aren't actively selling it on TV and the radio.
But, it isn't illegal to grow your own.

You clearly don't watch enough procedural cop shows on TV. I think every one I've ever watched has had some sort of drug bust episode with hydroponic pot growers.

You most definitely can grow in hydroponically ... people are getting busted here all the time with elaborate set ups in their homes.
