Wales trip with photos, part 6c

My wife and I have both been friends in LJ with peterb for a while now. Honestly I don’t remember how long, but I remember talking about the 2012 Olympics with him, so at least that long.

We had been writing about stopping by to visit and he had agreed. So, we left the armory and drove back over the mountains to visit.


The rain had let up some, but it was still VERY windy.

Windy enough they dropped the speed limit by a lot.


It wasn’t too bad in the car, but some of the bigger trucks seem to have problems with it.
But, most cars still zipped along pretty fast.


We passed the point of the highest motor way in England. But, in terms of other mountains I’ve been over, it isn’t all that high.


We met Peter at a pub near where he lived.


My wife suggested we not look like axe murderers as we had never met in person before.
Hopefully that worked.


It must have as Peter showed up.


We had a very nice visit and dinner.


I am very happy that we had a chance to meet up with him. It was a very nice way to spend our last evening in the UK.

But, then, we had to drive the 4 hours back to Cardiff for our flight in the morning. (Better to drive it the night before than risk being late the next morning.)

My wife had wanted to go over the bridge to Wales they talk about in several Torchwood episodes.
This turned out to be more challenging than expected as I overshot the M4, and had to turn around and go back.
But, playing the Torchwood theme on my phone, we got across the bridge.

(In retrospect maybe this is what caused the rift to open and take our luggage the next day. But, we didn’t know it at the time…)

We paid our tolls and were back in Wales.

Our holiday was over.
We only had to fly home.

Also, I'm not sure if I ever care to drive 'round the UK. Of course, I'm basing that on what little I saw of London driving, which seemed absolutely insane from our cabs. You're a brave one.

I had some kind of pie ever night for dinner!
Yay pie!

I've managed to avoid London so far. But, the rest of the UK isn't bad if you're OK with the driving on the left.
And, I make sure to get an automatic. I can do the road on the other side, but not the shift.

I swa a surprisng number of places be veg-friendly but I'd definitely call ahead!
