I’ve been grumpy today.
Sword practice was cancelled as the only other folks who normally show up couldn’t make it.
(I can’t begrudge it as their story involved fire departments leaving their front door in pieces to put out their building and them not wanting to leave their apartment open for the 6 hours it would take to go to practice.)

Yesterday was not a happy day for us. I had been looking forward to getting out and swinging swords.

I attribute this to why little things have been getting to me today.

For lunch we decided to order take out from an Italian place one town over. They have a new "order on line" function.
So, I put in our order and headed over to get it.

As I did, they called me as I stopped to pump gas. It was over the car speaker so I had to put my head in the car as I pumped gas.
"Your order asks for no cheese," the woman said. "Why is that?"
"I’m allergic to milk," I said. "Please no cheese."
"But, there is cheese in our bread crumbs on our chicken! If you’re allergic we can’t give you chicken with bread crumbs!"
"That’s OK. I’ve had it there before. There isn’t enough cheese in it to matter. Just don’t put the cheese on top and it will be fine."
"You’ll have to talk to the manager!"
The manager came on and we had almost the exact same conversation.
"We should do grilled chicken," he said. "That would be safer."
"Please don’t. I’ve had the breaded chicken there many times and it is fine. Just don’t put the cheese on top of the dish and it will be fine."
"OK," he said. "It will be ready in 7 minutes."

I got there 9 minutes later. I waited another 16 for the food. When I got it home it was grilled chicken.

I know. In the grand scheme of things this is nothing. I am honestly ashamed to be mad about this give the problems of others and the world.
But, I can’t lie and say I’m not mad about it.

So, ashamed of my feelings or not:
They couldn’t figure out my written instruction of "please don’t put cheese on this".
They were off by more than 3x about how long it would take.
The ignored my verbal instructions on what I wanted.
And, I’m mad about it.

You should have just told them it doesn't matter why you don't want the cheese, you just don't want it.

It would make me mad if someone did the opposite of what I wanted too.

Those are perfectly rational things to be mad about. As long as you don't burn their establishment down or punch a server, seems to me like you can be mad as you please, up to and including a written complaint.

This is why Yelp and Google are your friends.
Stick it to 'em where it doesn't go away....

WTAF?! So what if you just didn't want cheese? It's not a difficult request.
Especially when you've ordered the exact same thing from them before several times with no problems

That would piss me off/make me grumpy, too.
Sad that the place isn't doing its job/can't listen to a simple, innocuous request. Might be time to find another one. :(

Sorry you had a grumpy day and sorry I'm so busy unable to make practice.
And I'm so busy during the week (after work) now as much as I'd like to come over and do sword stuff with you at your place
(although not a lot of room there either).
Yikes about fire department and doors and other members. Hope everything is OK.

I think you're right to be mad. If they even asked for your reason why (which made me raise my eyebrows) they should take your word for it when you tell them what you want and why it's okay! (But again, you shouldn't even have to explain why it's okay...)

That would annoy me too.

They probably heard the word "allergy" and were worried about getting sued.

But they really should have listened to you when you told them that their food has been fine in the past. Rational adults are usually quite aware about their own bodies and what they can and cannot handle.

You have every right to be frustrated. That is VERY incompetent. I think it's worth putting in a written complaint if you're up for it. It will help them to improve their service (hopefully...)

I hope things pick up for you soon.

you shouldn't be giving them a reason why you don't want any cheese. it's YOUR order, right?

it always sucks when something you're looking forward to gets cancelled.

by saying you're allergic to cheese, i'm pretty sure you freaked them out on a LITIGATION level. as in they're terrified you'll sue them for serving you cheese when you've said you're allergic to it. maybe some idiot sued their company for something like that and now they're super jumpy about it. who knows.

perhaps in the future say 'lactose intolerant'. then they'll believe that you can handle the small amount of cheese in the breading, but more cheese than that would get uncomfortable.

they probably took extra long to get your food because they prepared it how you ordered it, and then second guessed themselves and redid it with grilled chicken. making you wait the whole time.

and yeah, i'd be pissed too. that kind of service is no good.

oh for goodness sake - why can't people follow instructions - do they think you don't know what you can and can't have?
Maybe they were worried about being sued in case you got an allergic reaction but you gave them specific instructions.
