Vacation with the Godkids, day 2

We got up at a reasonable time and got on the road to the beach about 9.

The beach we like is about 2 hours from home and not well know.

No one minds the long drive…

You can tell it isn’t well known as we considered it crowded today.

There are a good number of rocks right at the edge of the water, then it gives over to shallow sand bars for as far out as I have ever cared to walk.

Despite them charging us full price to go in, the bathrooms were broken and no life guards were on duty. I was less than happy about that.

Our Goddaughter did not want to go in. But, her summer science project did involve some rocks. So, she spent time on the beach breaking rocks into smaller rocks. I did help her at one point and we found a few fossils.

But, the rest of us could not avoid the lure of the water.

The good news is, I finally found the charger to my water proof camera. It was where I thought it was all along. But, I had been putting the batteries into it wrong, so it wasn’t working.
This morning, when showing our Godson how it didn’t work, it did.
So, we have photos from the water.

Our Godson seems obsessed with digging for clams. Not sure why.

Anyhow, we waded out to the sand bars and played around in the water for a while before coming back.

For some reason, when we got to shore, our Godson decided to roll in the sand.

For this we sent him back to the water to wash off again.
I was happy to see that they called a plumber about the broken bathrooms.

Is thistle an invasive species?

My wife took this photo for "all the bad photos I take of her".

One of the things I like there is you get a big variation in the water. I tried to photograph the different colors and temperatures of the water. Not sure how well it really worked.

The area near that one beach reminds me of how the area was 40 years ago when I used to spend my summers there.

Fields, farms, fishermen.

Small family owned shops.

Over where my aunt used to live, only 5 miles from there, it is all million dollar or more homes. In places my memory says there should be cows.
Anyhow, we drove back towards home and stopped for pizza for linner.

I wasn’t picking my nose, I was rubbing the sunscreen. No, really.

When we got home we played some games. Dominion and King of Tokyo.

Our Godson still seems fascinated with the plasma sphere and kept it with him when he played.

By 9 all was quiet. Everyone is still awake, they’re just reading or writing LJ posts.
Hopefully tomorrow will go as well…

Date: 2015-08-11 01:42 am (UTC)I like rocky beaches as I like to see what is living by the rocks and poking around the tidal pools. I have never found a fossil at a beach. That is very cool.

GO your Wife! :ppppppppppppp
I'm more a fan of sandy beaches as they're softer to walk on with bare feet

Date: 2015-08-15 10:20 am (UTC)I could get to the closest ocean beach in just over an hour. (If traffic wasn't bad.)
To swim at a lake is only 3km...
