Yesterday we set off about 4:45 towards NJ. Although we hit a slow down
near NYC, I had planned on that and we still got there in plenty of time.
The summer camp was very close to where we stayed in NJ last month when we
did the faire there. We got off the highway at the exit after where our
hotel had been.
It was just the two of us this show:

Because it was just us, we were more limited in what we showed. We were
only able to show sword & buckler, long sword, rapier, dagger (German &
Italian), and Bec-De-Crobin.

But, the kids seemed to like it. After each show they had me “knight” the
kids who wanted it.

They also had a jester who could juggle and play the guitar while standing
on duck footed stilts. I was very impressed as I can’t play the guitar,
and can hardly juggle at all while not wearing stilts. I guess she’s going
to be at SCRF as well, so we told her what to expect from that.

In the gap between the two groups of kids, we went to the memorial to 9/11
they have there in the park. Although a good 60 miles from NYC several
people from that town died in the attack. And they have a piece of the
towers there in the park.

Also between shows we ate lunch and straightened all our stuff out.

I wish I had known we would have to bring our own lunch. But, I was able to
drive off to a market and get some stuff.

The kids in the afternoon seemed very interested in my maile and several of
them wanted to try it on.

As it weights 35 pounds I was afraid it was going to squash this little
girl, but she insisted on trying.

At the end of the day, the young man who had challenged me to the pillow
joust at the NJ faire wanted a rematch. As had been pointed out he had
been upset to losing to an old fat guy back at the faire, and thought he
could do better now.
The rules are, if you touch the ground, the other guy gets a point. Three
points and you win.

It was the end of a long day. I was very tired. I was hot. I wanted to
go home.
So, I didn’t even pretend to let him get any points. Maybe that was bad of
me. It certainly seemed to upset him. After falling off twice, he tried
to charge me and “sumo” me off of the board.

He seemed upset he didn’t move me. Ah well. I got to go home. I’m sure
he’ll get to try again next time we do a job for Chris. Maybe I’ll let him
win so he’ll stop trying…
