Sword show gender balance

Over all our sword troupe is not so bad for gender balance.
Of the 85 folks we’ve had perform with us over the years, it’s not quite
50/50, but not too far off.
The actual number of folks doing the shows is closer as many of our
“special guest stars” that only do one show with us are male. So, of
regular performances it isn’t too bad.
My wife is worried that when we do the Gulf Coast show in Florida in 6 or
so weeks, we are going to be far more lopsided than normal.
Of the 12 or so folks we’re hoping for, only 3 are women. And, of those my
wife is the only sword performer. So, a lot more males than females in the
performance this winter.

I’d love to change that.
But, we’re having trouble getting enough performers to go to shows in
general. So, I don’t want to say we’ll only try and encourage women to
join as we need more of both.
Over all of the 297 shows we’ve done since the beginning we stay fairly
balanced. There are a few lopsided ones. I was the only male at the shows
in November. Casey has been the only performer at shows on several
occasions when we were only booked to do juggling.
But, it isn’t too bad.

There are a number of shows that I was the only male there. Many of them
were shows where it was just me and my wife. But, there are a few others
too.
We need more folks. Of all types.
