Sword practices in winter involve tight spaces, lots of stuff cramped in and frozen water.

There has been a bit of snow, but not too much.

The plastic snow deer is no where near as deep as it has been before.

Although I’ve been going on about lack of snow, if you look at this practice time a year ago, no more snow than this. And, we were working outside.

We had not met last week as planned as the owner of the place we practice lost his brother. It was good to see he is still doing OK.

As a big surprise for us, one of the folks we’ve been performing with for 15 years now, but not for the last few, suddenly said he wanted to join us for a show this year.

Everyone was excited by this.

(John was just tired from getting up at 3AM to take care of horses…)
Casey is primarily a juggler, but does sword fighting too.

Anyhow, John and Casey got along great, even though they had never met before.

(Choreographing a fight right off is getting along well, trust me.)
By the end of practice they had something working as a start.

Practicing in a garage can have problems.

Of course, it is a garage. And, cold. So all our water froze. I spent a lot of time trying to warm it in front of the heater. I managed to set the cap of one bottle on fire and melt another bottle. So, we settled just for shaking it to try and warm it. A lot.

We did spend some time taking stock of the time we’ve got, people we expect, hope and would like to do the show with us, and how we’re going to do it.

I did do sword fighting too, not just shake water.

But, Tom and I are out of practice. I haven’t done that fight with Tom since May.
So, at one point we weren’t watching where we were going and I accidentally backed into the wood stove.

Not my finest moment.

But, we’ve got 6 more practices before the big show. We’ve got really talented people we didn’t expect. And, we’ve got some other folks who say they might make it too.
If so, it will be a fantastic show.

As long as I don’t sit on the wood stove again…
