For a couple of days now we’ve know King Arthur was returning for the July 4th as a hurricane.

It was not totally clear if we’d get hit, but we were going to get a lot of rain on Friday either way.

Thursday was pretty humid. A frequent occurrence when a tropical storm is headed towards you.

Friday, the king arrived.

It was pretty rainy.

On Friday we got the average amount of rain for June, July and August combined.
But, June had been very dry, so we needed the water.

Even with the rain we went over to [livejournal.com profile] cissa & [livejournal.com profile] cosmicirony’s house for dinner. It was only 5 miles away and no rivers between us to overflow.

[livejournal.com profile] cosmicirony braved the rain and cooked outdoors on the grill for us.

It was a very nice time, with great food and company.
A good way to spend Independence Day.

People on the east coast think I'm crazy, but man do I envy your rain and storms! We get rain only 2-3 months a year, but this year it rained a total of 2-3 times instead of months. Something like 95% of California is experiencing its worst drought on record. It's so crazy-dry here, I'd pay a whole lot of money for a storm to hit. :)

That being said, Author is a silly name for it. Doesn't sound scary at all! Makes me think of an old English man enjoying a spot of tea instead of something that could wreck houses.

The grill is under trees, so the rain got turned into large drops. I got wet, but the kabobs got cooked!

The rain didn't affect the cooking process? I would have thought that it would!

It did mean that the beef ones got cooked a bit more than we would have otherwise, since the alternative was to have them sit in the rain. Still, they were tender and juicy.

The grill is hot enough that unless it's a monsoon, it works OK.

The grill has a lid, so mostly the food was covered.
