I’ve always been a big fan of the Bayeux Tapestry and its story of the
Norman invasion of England. It is full of interesting images and icons
representing things. Some of the things it represents have been forgotten
and no one knows what the real story is.

I’ve wanted to something similar for Phoenix Swords. A history of the 279
and growing number of shows we’ve done over the last 12 years.

And, I’d love to do it as icons.

I think I’ve thought of a way to do it. If we buy some cheap bed sheets
and put them up between the poles of the tents, we could put some of the
shows on each of the sheets.

The real question is, what do we use for icons.

Things like waterspouts at the show I think we can figure out.

But, how would you express this story with icons:

Well, we’ll have a lot of time in the car to think about it.

If you want to look up tapestry symbolism, there was a book written about The Unicorn Tapestries (My personal favorites)by Adolph S. Cavallo and it goes into detail about the symbolism in them and in other art from the period (@ 1400 to 1500).

Also if you like historical fiction Tracy Chevalier wrote a wonderful story about the tapestries creation, The Lady and the Unicorn, but also goes into symbolism. Besides it has a very bittersweet wonderful story.

I think we have that symbol book already. (We have a lot of reference books...)

But, that doesn't have something for guns on planes...

hmmm. The links were not working for me so I didn't know. Sorry. Maybe look at WWI or WWII image propaganda? I know when the airplanes were new in WWI there was a lot of stylized art about their use in war....

well not a gun but I have found art depicting an arquebus a weapon used in the 15th century which was like a flintlock rifle...

And I think that is as far as my google fu will get me today. Or you could always use a miniature cannon? *shrug* The plane thing, well How about a stylised version of Baba Yaga's house. I read an Orson Scott Card book where she brought a plane into the past and in the book the villagers later drew it into what her house looks like now... only iwth big wings.

Not tapestry iconic though.

Cool ideas!

That is one of the things I want to think about: how to show modern things in a way that would fit with the 900 year old inspiration.

But, Thursday night into Friday I'm going to be spending 1300 miles with 2 artists. So, it will give us something to talk about.

In totally different news, my wife did say it was OK to share some of the old stories I mention on your LJ the other day.
So, if you're interested, they are the only things unlocked here: http://sexy-frank.livejournal.com

Thanks! I am sorry if I overstepped, I tend to do that when i get excited about an idea.

I am honored that you both want to share this part of yourselves. Thank you again. =)

I will let you know when I am done in case you want to make it private again.

Do the agents get fired? Do they ever find out where the copies of Dr. Gordon's brain is. Or who has them. Do they ever find out who built the mystery tech? Is Mao still in China? Do the Fey invade, and can the Agents of Fortune stop them?

=D

I am afraid that Smith and Jones do transition to the private sector. They end up getting a job in the marketing department of a division of Gordon Corp. They come up with the slogan "Our robot vacuums clean your floors!" But, it isn't a bad life for them.

The mystery tech and the extra copy of Halley's brain are both in the hands of "Comander Blast" the old head of Bio-Life/Advanced Strategic Technologies. I'm afraid she has something of a grudge and her own power armor. And she's trying to put her old group back together. (The ones still alive or replacements for them.)
I have yet to write up that story arc, but it is on my list.

I'm afraid the brain swapping tech was not shared with other nations. Only a few select US people have benefited from it.

The Fey War is a different series of stories that mostly involves the children of the AOF. They are stopped. But, the fight between humans and fey continues for a very long time.
I went and unlocked another story, if you're interested, about the end.
