Jan. 16th, 2014 08:28 amthe first 5 questions Tuesday, the next 5 yesterday, and not the final 5.
11) Would you consult a psychic?
12) What is your idea of heaven?
13) What is it hard for you to understand?
14) What do you think is the meaning of life?
15) What are you curious about?
11) Would you consult a psychic?
Probably not. I can’t see any reason to do so. Any question I’d want to
know can be found by some other method.
Now if I was walking down the street and a psychic called out to me “Hey
Frank, that freezer lid idea you’re thinking about for the new product
won’t work well because it will never seal as well as you think” or “that
hotel you’ve booked in Pensacola is a pit! You’d be better off back at the
Ramada”, I might go over and see what else they have to say.
So far, none have managed to get my attention enough to do this.
12) What is your idea of heaven?
Like religious heaven or just being really happy now?
I guess from a religious stand point I’d say it is the green room where you
go when you get off stage and wait to see if you’re going to go back on.
If we’re talking ”a really nice situation here” I’d say on some sort of
nice trip with my wife where the weather is good, there are interesting
things to see and we have a good time.
13) What is it hard for you to understand?
Language. I’m not very good at it. I’ve been practicing English for
almost 50 years and am barely proficient. I’d love to learn more
languages, but am just not very good at it.
The way I tend to think is in shapes. But, they don’t translate well to
English. So, I tend to ramble on a bit as I try to circle around a shape
of my thought and capture it.
The good news is that thinking in shapes makes my job as a mechanical
engineer easy.
14) What do you think is the meaning of life?
I found the meaning of life in a book. It is in Robert Fulghum’s book “It
was on fire when I lay down on it”, about ¾ of the way through. (My Kindle
says it is on page 173 of 204, or location 1590, but I’m not sure that
would be the same in a paper edition.)
It involved Greek children, Nazis, motorcycle accidents and mirrors.
It isn’t really what I expected.
But, once I read it I had no doubt about it being the meaning of life.
15) What are you curious about?
Almost everything. It’s really just a question of degree.
I’d say the low end of my curiosity is on the material goods sort of thing.
I really don’t care much what people wear, drive, live in or stuff like
that.
What they do with it? Sure.
You say you redecorated, made a new shirt or something like that, I’m
curious.
Say “did you know what brand of shirt XXX wears?” No. Not much interest
there.
I have a lot of curiosity about how things work. Machines, plants,
animals, planets, stars.
I like to know how they all work.

Such an ironically beautiful turn of phrase.
