It was a fine fall day.

But, my boss sent me an email freaking out about some of the stuff we proposed this week, so I went in to make sure we hadn’t made some horrible mistake.

As I got near work, the clouds looked like some big sort of bird sending dark beams down to where my company was.

Yeah. That was pretty much my week.

While at work I went crazy. In clear defiance of company policy, I only lowered the shade I needed to shade my desk and not all of them equally!

Oh, the crazy things I do at work on a Saturday…

For a couple of hours it was just me and the cleaning guy.

But, more folks did show up. By the time I left there were at least 5 folks there working.

Still, by 2 I bugged out.

My wife and I had a nice linner (lunch/dinner) at O’Connor’s and then headed out to the Fruitlands Museum.

One thing I MUST say about them, they have a nice view.

My wife had pre-bought tickets to the beer tasting there.

Not my thing, so I mostly looked around outside.

I did play some “Where’s Waldo” with my wife in the tent.

There she is!

I’m given to understand they didn’t have as many beers as expected and some were fairly common in the area. So, soon my wife was joining me in looking around outside.

That tree was clearly looking at me.

We were told that at sunset they were going to set the big piece of artwork on fire.

The sun going down was very impressive, but not fast.

So, we walked around some more.

I liked their Labyrinth.

Perhaps some folks did not always stay in the lines.

Still, the sunset looked great, but wouldn’t end.

We wandered over to the “big yarn” fire art and waited.

The curator told us that last year they did a giant fire bat that was very artistic. But, the whole thing burned down in five minutes.
So, this year they built a big fire ball mostly made of wooden pallets for fuel and then told the artist to art it up.
So, maybe not so artsy, but was expected to burn well.

Still that sun would not go down.

It did look nice, I’ll grant you that.

And, my wife and I had good seats.

Finally, the sun was over the horizon.

They lit the fire ball and it started smoking.

For a while, that was about it.

But, then the core caught and it started going up.

And, once it started, it went up pretty well.

When it tipped over and slid a bit down the hill, it really flared up.

The firemen there did not seem that concerned about this.

When it melted the back safety line and the grass fire spread past the front safety line, then it was more of an issue.

The firemen took out a big squirt gun and stopped the grass fire.

We watched it burn for a while, then headed back out.

The director had placed luminaries along the path to the parking lot. That was very helpful.

Not a bad time. But, we did wait a good bit for the fire thing.
My wife seemed to have more fun. But, she drank the beer too…

I'd be more into a wine tasting than a beer tasting, although I would have endured...lol.

I miss the leaves changing in the fall. However, I caught the trees turn halfway up north. I left before peak.

Great fire.

Sorry you had to work for even part of the day (!!!), Frank. But glad you left when you did!

What a fascinating time for the rest of the day!!! Love that art on fire thing. Looks like fun!

Always good to see photos of you and your wife, by the way.

(hugs)

Fruitlands is great! Had proposed to a few Reenacting groups a few times the idea of having a Timeline event there as it is so scenic, although hilly.
But, nothing really came of it. No worries though. (mostly b/c the neighbors despise any firearms or cannon using groups for obvious reasons)

Ren faire there might be possible...Hmmm.

In fact we suspect there was some reenacting even going on nearby since we heard sustained gunfire and saw flares at one point.

It might have been Fort Devens which is not at all far from there, it's been re-activated partially as an Army/Guard base.
