Google wants me to walk more

I decided to stay in The Hague today. There are MANY museums here and I thought I'd see some of them.
The earliest opened at 10, so about 9 I headed out to find it.

I was using google walking directions on my phone. They wanted me to start at the train station 3 blocks from here, then their preferred route was blocked.

But, it was a nice morning and the canals looked good.

And, the Romans were in a good mood.

After I walked about twice as far as it had told me I should, I told it to restart from my current position.
So, back over that pretty canal.

At least the streets are pretty.

And, some have the old fashion water pumps still there. I don't know if they work, but they are locked closed, so maybe they do.

I passed Parliament again and noticed piles of horse droppings just outside? Cooincidence? Who knows?

There were a whole bunch of reporters and police near the entrance, so I figure something was up, but never found out either way.

It was early enough even the herring stand was closed.

When I finally got there, it turned out to be less than a block away from the hotel. In fact if you looked down the alley next to the museum, you could see my hotel's entrance.

I guess I should have just followed the statue.

As near as I could tell, I was the only person who came to visit The Hague historical museum. They certainly didn't seem to know what to do with a visitor.
They did finally find the English guide so I could read the signs.
It was a small place, but had some interesting stuff. The original charter for the town from the 1300's. A good film of the changes over the last 700 years.
They also had a long "parade" of people from history in chronological order from 1300 to 1890.
I wasn't supposed to take photos, but there was one group I had to get.

So, I stole that photo....
I feared a long walk to the Escher museum, but it turned out to only be a block away. They turned the old Queen Mother's residence into the Escher museum. So, it's got a bunch of stuff from both of them.

I don't associate Escher with rhinestone sea gull, but, what do I know?

They had some pieces I hadn't seen.

And, some of the sculptures he did.

They had one "transformation" as a ring that you could view inside or out. There was a school group there that thought getting inside and doing the Macarena was the best thing ever.

The historical museum was next to another museum that was closed for renovation. They said their stuff had moved to the Gemeente museum for the construction and could be seen there.
So, again trusting my navigation on my iPhone, I set off again.
I was happy to see people cleaning the streets.

I walked by Parliament yet again.

I bought a snack of "assorted favorite gummy" candy. I think I got gummy calamari...

I'll go over the other museum in another post. It was pretty strange.
Oh yeah, edited to add, they had some of the actual blocks Escher used to make his prints:
