From an online chat at AT&T:

AT&T sales representatives are happy to assist you with your questions.
You are now chatting with Chris C., an AT&T sales representative.
Frank: Hi Chris,
Chris C.: Welcome to AT&T online Feature Sales. How may I assist you with
your features today?
Frank: My company is sending me to the Netherlands next week for the whole
week.
Frank: I'm trying to figure out how best to make my iPhone work there.
Chris C.: For calls when outside the US, we have 3 levels - 15 minutes for
$30, 40 minutes for $60, or 100 minutes for $120.
Frank: The web page seems to suggest it is 200 minutes for $120, not 100...
Chris C.: That is for Europe. The Netherlands is part of the Rest of the
World Travel Minutes.
Frank: Really, it is listed on the list of covered countries in Europe...
Chris C.: Are you going to the Netherland Antilles?
Frank: No. The main Netherlands that sits between Germany and the North
Sea. On your list of European countries it is after Monaco and before
Norway.
Chris C.: Ok. The Netherland Antilles is part of the Rest of the World
Travel Minutes. In this case, you can do the Europe Travel Minutes with 200
minutes for $120.
Frank: I’m going to pass right now. I may add it before I go.

That still seems like a ridiculously high price to me. But, it has been sometime since I had to travel to Europe. And, when I did, I had a company phone that would work in Europe and not over here.

Technically the Netherland Antilles doesn't even exist any more as a separate country. However let us not quibble.

I'd also figure that half the point of going to Aruba would be leaving your phone behind, but that's just me.

I have never heard anyone going to Aruba describe it as the Netherlands Antilles. But, maybe the folks at AT&T do...

I didn't know Wedge retired to Aruba, nor Dutch.

Huh.

Can't figure out what's worse, voicemail / phone robot or internet chat robot.

I've definitely heard the name, but not since 2010. Most people just used the name of the island in question before then. (Especially in marine biology :) ) To be fair I think when it was the Netherlands Antilles all the islands had the same telephone code, so it's possible it's still used for telephone use? It still seems odd to say to a customer though.

I've also heard Lesser Antilles or Kingdom of the Netherlands in official hurricane statements, but always followed by the name of the islands.

It's possible I spend too much time reading NHC statements :)
