Down to NJ

Last night we drove down to New Jersey for the Mystic Realms Fantasy Faire. We've been doing this show almost every years since we started.

I managed to get out of work after only 9 1/2 hours, which is a record for June.
I thought "I'm leaving an hour before rush hour starts, I'll take the highway home as it won't be bad yet."


The 18 miles of highway took me 45 minutes. (That is why I usually go the back roads.)
But, I caught up with the others and we headed off to NJ in two cars.

When we got to Connecticut the road we were on stopped. We were between exits and there was no where to go. Many emergency vehicles went past us, but the cars were not moving.


After we had been at a total stop for about 20 minutes someone on a skateboard came past us down the middle of the road.

They went over the hill, waited a while and came back about half an hour later. And, we still had to wait for a while.

When we finally got going again, a bit over an hour later, we saw the accident that caused it. Someone had gone off the road into a tree. Hope they are OK. Based on the debris in the road I'd say there we other cars involved too, but they weren't there any more.
As I said, hope everyone is OK.

The traffic was stopped in New Jersey for construction. Yeah, 10PM on a Friday night. But, when else can they update the New Jersey Turnpike, right?

On one other note, when we were stopping to pick up John, there was a protest going on by some of the Tea Party.

We are having a special election this week, so I can understand why they'd want to try and promote their candidate.
What I don't understand is that had only one little sign for a candidate and a lot of big signs saying how bad the country is, how bad the government is, and how they were the real Americans.
When we went past where they parked, they had left their flags on the hoods of their cars, and they had blown off onto the ground.
My wife was so mad at this she almost hopped out of the car and went after them.
We had a long discussion about how people telling us they are better Americans than we are should at least keep the flag off of the ground.
But, that's us.

Anyhow, we got here just after midnight. That's about 2 hours longer than the predicted travel time. But, at least we all got here.
