Faire at the Ren Center
May. 6th, 2013 08:29 pmYesterday morning we set off at 7:30 to go the 50 or so miles to the University of Massachusetts Renaissance Center Faire.

It is the same place as the Symposium last week. Last week it took an hour and a half including going to pick up John.
This week it took 1:45 without detours.
Because, we hit every red light between here and there.

But, I had made muffins for breakfast, so it wasn’t all bad.

And it is a very nice drive. Both times over the Connecticut river...

But, we got there.

The others beat us (with a stick, but that was later), but we had the tent, so there wasn’t much they could do until we got there.

This is the kind of faire that has the kind of jousting I like.

Pool noodles and toy horses! Yay!
And, it is a VERY nice site.

Everyone was happy to be there and in costume.

Even the pole arms were behaved.

I did have some trouble getting the group shot as every time I set the camera for a delayed picture it tipped upside down and pointed at the sky.

But, eventually it worked!

We also asked folks for one “up against the tent”. Some folks responded as if the police had asked.

We also took our picture with the woman who organizes the event.

I had made sure to charge all my extra camera batteries. Then, I left the case of them at home. Sad.
The camera lasted about an three pictures before the battery light came on.
So, most of these photos are taken with various phones, iphones, iPads, etc.

In addition to whipping out his phone,

So, the whole troupe got into the act.

At least it makes us look like there were more than 9 of us. Even if some were ghosts.
The shows went well.

I had felt bad only showing up 45 minutes before the show when I asked folks to be there an hour early.
But, the falcon guy came driving through while we did our first show that started 90 minutes after the faire started.

We were scheduled to do 3 shows. 11:30, 1:30 and 3:00. But, lots of folks came up to us and said “I can’t stay for your next show, can you do something cool now?”
We don’t say no to that.

Our newest member has been learning some old Italian moves that involve what to do if someone attacks you with a sword and all you have is some sticks, or what do you do if someone throws a spear at you.

After dinner we went to the BBQ place that is just down the road from there.

Jeff Lord and the folks from ARMS joined us as well.

Sadly, on the way home we got stuck in a massive traffic jam and didn’t get home until late.

But, other than the trip out and back, it was a good time!
