Big Brothering people

One of the presents we sent this Christmas went to the wrong address and did not show up for the person for whom we had bought it.
So, we looked up where it did go, found the name of those people and I’m sending them a postcard saying “If someone opened it and loved it, don’t take it away from them. But, if it isn’t anything you or your family can use, can you please pass it on to the person we bought it for who lives 8 houses to your right?”
Don’t know if that will work or not.
