This morning when I came out of our apartment I found my car with a thick
coating of ice.

In some places it was a good ¼”/6mm thick and quite solid. The problem
was, I had left my ice scraper in the trunk to make more room Saturday. I
was able to get the driver’s door open and start the heat. But, the trunk
was froze shut.

I tried really hard to open the trunk. So hard, it set off an alarm I
hadn’t heard in my car before.
I went back in to look at the dashboard and apparently I had been putting
up hard enough to trigger the loss of contact with the road alarm. I
didn’t even know it had that one.

About then I remembered that I had only unlocked the driver’s door.
Yeah, I’m brilliant Monday morning at 6, aren’t I?
Once I unlocked the trunk I was able to get my ice scraper out without
lifting the car off of the ground.

By the time I had all that sorted out, the heat on the inside had loosened
the ice considerably and it only took another 10 minutes to clear off the
car.
Over all, I prefer snow. Yes, I do have to shovel it. But it does not
stick to the windows like this ice.

You can see that even a few hours after I got to work, that ice is still
holding on.

My laptop tells me it is 70F/21C where we head later this week.
Hope that warm air waits for us.

I was lucky, we got snow before it turned to rain. Which meant all I had to do was break the crust and brush things off.

I couldn't even exit the house on Monday- the porch AND the steps were covered in ice, and there was no shovel around to scrape them, and I KNEW that if I tried to do the steps it would be a nasty fall.
