The Pensacola Pirate Fest day 2
Nov. 14th, 2012 03:36 pmFrom a show stand point day 2 was much like day 1.
As is our tradition, we attended the morning church service of the
Shakespeare guy. I am not a Baptist as he is. But, I do like the idea of
setting aside some time during the show to be thankful for things. And, he
is not a hellfire and damnation type. He’s much more of a “be thankful for
what we’ve got” type and I’m OK with that no matter the religion or
denomination of such.
In what I think would have been considered a miracle in certain centuries,
as he read from his bible, a dove came and sat on the railing behind him
looking over his shoulder.
I guess they just don’t make miracles like they used to as my wife and I
were the only ones to notice. (And, we were half the folks there…)
Sunday. David also managed to hurt his back somehow. So, we weren’t the
most active bunch.
But, David could still talk, I could do the dagger bit and
The crowds were a bit bigger than Saturday, but still not at the usual
Pensacola levels. I heard a lot of talk from folks that people were
already saving for Christmas and didn’t want to spend the money for things
like this.
I can’t deny that not doing the fire show made the end of the day easier.
Doing an extra sword show made the day harder. But, at 5 when we could say
“pack it up” instead of “now performing is…” made it much easier on the
final day of the show.
Getting paid took the longest I can remember it taking. And, for the first
time in 11 years of doing these shows we were paid in cash. Maybe because
it is the least we’ve ever been paid.
Honestly, I prefer the check as it is easier to bring back and deposit.
But, pay is pay.
It took me so long to get the pay that when I turned to come back I found
that everyone had finished packing, loaded the car, moved it out to the
parking lot and were waiting for me to come out.
I felt bad about that, but not bad enough to go and repack it just to feel
better.
good at organizing things. Even though I make my living fitting objects in
spaces, I doubt I could have done better anyhow. (Especially as I don’t
have the computer to help when at a show.)
For dinner we went to the Sonny’s barbeque place half way between the hotel
and the faire. They were totally unable to get
steak cooked rare, and apparently did not have an extra steak in the
building to try again. It was nice of them to give her a free meal card,
but at 1300 miles away, I’m not sure when she’ll use it.
We got back to the hotel fairly early and went to sleep. We were all tired
and had to get up quite early for the trip home.

And, I didn't have to reprimand or fire anyone!

I just felt bad that others had to load the car without help.
