For some reason, I’ve been thinking about turning 49 today.
I don’t turn 49 for another 156 days, so it shouldn’t be on my mind too
much.
But, it is.

In two weeks I’ll be older than my father was when I was born.  He had
another kid at 50 and lived 36 ¾ years after I was born, so that shouldn’t
worry me.

I like dogs.
You might not think that has anything to do with 49, but my mother almost
killed a dog because of 49.

We were driving somewhere and my mother was trying to get my brother to
remember his multiplication tables for the number 7.  For some reason,
probably because it annoyed my mother, he couldn’t remember 7 times 7.
After several times of him getting it wrong, she turned to him and shouted
“SEVEN TIMES SEVEN IS FORTY NINE!”
I saw the dog running out from between the cars along the side of the road,
but there wasn’t enough time to warn my mother.
The good news is the dog saw the car and did his best to stop.  So, he only
got the end of his nose hit by my mother’s car.

It’s funny what I remember and don’t.
I think it was 1975, but I’m not sure.
I do remember exactly where it happened.  (42.247672,-71.177228)
I don’t remember the name of the dog or the young woman who owned it.
I do remember the look on the woman’s face when my mother told her it was
her fault for not keeping the dog on a leash.
I don’t remember if my mother had to pay any vet bills.
I do remember it was a very nice German Sheppard who sat there very well
behaved while his owner and my mother shouted at each other.

So, maybe that’s why I’ve been thinking about 49 and not really liking it.
Or, it could be my grandfather died at 49.

The closer I get to an age that starts with "5", the more I contemplate things, too. I turn 48 this year - and it makes 20 years since my father passed away. I was exactly 1/2 his age when he went, so I am hoping that maybe I will make it past 56.

You sound like me-every year my Mom made it past 50+ I was all
"Go Mom!" because that increased my expectancy.
I'll be cheering you on currently :)
