I got an email today from Verizon with my cellphone bill saying it was
$1300!

I was very surprised.

First because I haven’t used Verizon for my cellphone since 1998 when I
switched to Sprint, then AT&T since last fall.
Second because that would come out to $7.74 a month for cellphone service,
which is a lot less than what I’m paying now.
Third because when I checked the address to which that the nice big “pay
now” button linked I saw it was an address in the Czech republic.  That’s
not where I send my Verizon payments for my land line…

Even the emails that do make sense I won’t click the “pay now” buttons.  I
go to the site on my own and log in there.

The spammers & scammers are definitely getting more aggressive and inventive these days. Saw on the news about a couple of black women who were stealing those VISA gift cards from stores, and then embossing them and programming the magetic stripe with the account and address info from hacked credit/bank account databases. And, this was not the first time that these women had been arrested for doing this, and they had about 40 cards with at least 4 different account/ID data on them.

The news warning is: Look at your monthly statement carefully before paying. My mother in law had her credit card info stolen and didn't know about it until she noticed that someone had bought over $100 worth of gas in another state when she was in Virginia for a vacation.

I've noticed an uptick in the number of spam e-mails my g-mail filter has caught regarding MY RECENT JOB APPLICATION.

Oh, and I noticed the other day that Nigeria's GNP has increased. Which means someone is falling for this stuff!
