When we were in line to get our iPhones yesterday I overheard some things I thought were strange.

Sprint was the only company that had sold out the phones. I think this strange as no existing Sprint customer was being given the new customer deals you could get from changing. This is one of the main reasons I switched service. And, I heard two other people question it in line and at the store yesterday. But, they’re still sold out. Did they have less of them, or am I out of the ordinary for not wanting to put up with that.

The young woman behind us in line had drive more than 60 miles each way to be there to get an iPhone. She wanted to get one in person, and this was the closest store to where she lives out in the western part of the state. I thought we were going out of our way to go the 15 miles we went. And, I only did that because we were changing companies and she wasn’t. If I lived that far away, I’d have had them FedEx the phone to me.

A guy behind us in line wanted the carrier free iPhone that you can move from one service to the other. “That won’t be out until November” the Apple guy putting people into line told him. “That’s not what it says on your website,” he said. Didn’t he see the iPad in the guy’s hand? The iPad that very quickly was turned to show him the Apple site that said “coming in November”? And, he still argued with the guy saying he was sure it was available now. When assured by another Apple guy it wasn’t, he left in a huff. I don’t know where he went or who he talked to, but 15 minutes later he was back in line, several people behind where he had been.

The spinning dollar sign woman was working there still. If my buying $1500 in software last year made her happy, a line of people buying iPhones made her ecstatic. She was continuing her habits of towing people holding products over to the customers for presentation. There was part of me that was impressed she was still so enthusiastic at her job. There was another part of me quite happy we had a different salesperson.

I have never waited in line for an Apple product before. I have, on occasion, had to wait in the store to get helped. But, only when it was crowded.
It was a strange experience. I’m glad I got the phone. I’m not in a hurry to wait in line like that again.
