Today we were performing at Pipes in the Valley for the third year.
Because rain was forecast, we got up early and tried to get to storage to pick up more things for the show and the tent. But, you’ve got to check in to get the key and there was a huge line.
The folks in line were not happy and were arguing about who should wait outside or inside the door.
When I finally got to the front the guy said “You should have just come to the front to get this key.”
“I was afraid I’d get lynched if I did that,” I said.
He looked at the crowd.
“You’re a smart man,” he told me.

Because the tent and all was last minute, the car was not pack as well as some other trips.

When we got to Hartford we drove onto the site and got stuck in the middle of a traffic jam on the small road by the river.

Trying to go under the stage did not help the backup.

When the hurricane came through here a month ago it really did a job on the place. I’m told the water level was ten feet above the road.

There was lots of mud. All over.

The highland cattle took our spot as they had 2 years ago. So, we had to move farther down the road.

Did I mention lots of mud?

I did, eventually, remember to take my high blood pressure pill. This is the pill that the doctor told me not to worry that it was so large.

Sometimes I don’t know what that woman is thinking.

Weeks after the storm, there are still lots of random things floating down the river.

Or, that’s an alligator in Connecticut. I’m told the look like floating logs...

While [livejournal.com profile] blue_micha and I were looking over our very small stage space for the fire show, a group of bagpipe players with drummers interrupted the band playing on stage and put on their own show in front of the stage.

The crowd seemed to like it, but the band was pretty mad about it.

It is hard for me to describe how much mud there was this year.

I’m not at all sure if this was there before the flood or not.

The police were still patrolling the river, but this year we were not shooting anything into it with the trebuchet, so they left us alone.

I have no idea what this was floating down the river.

The cow made an attempt to escape when the handler opened the gate for someone to take pictures.
The cow seems aware that its horns can lift that gate when it needs to and the handler grabbed it by the horns and wrestled it back in.
This seemed to depress the cow.

Despite it being a Celtic fair, I’m not sure there is really that much pride involved.

Although they’re well armed. Even the puppets were going after our weapons.

Did I mention the mud?

Some day I’ve got to get to this museum.

In the evening we did the fire show. we didn’t like the tent right there next to us, but were not given the choice.

There were still a lot of folks there.

Devon did quite well with the flaming sticks of death.

My wife says this one makes him look like Elvis.

My wife did her meteors.

And, the sun set on our 251st performance.
