Today at fire practice, we ran out of fuel. So, I offered to go get some more.
As I drove down the road I saw something come off of the roof of the car. Never a good sign.
It flipped though the air with a look of silver and black. When it hit the ground I saw parts go in two directions.
My first thought was it was the old phone that [livejournal.com profile] morgan_lafaye had been using that got broke this week. I thought maybe she had put it on the roof of the car when bringing back the bits.
Then, I worried it was my phone, which was actually silver.
I turned around and went back.
What I hadn’t expected what that it was my camera. Which, very sadly, is what I found laying in the middle of the road. The camera is silver and the case is black. So, that must have been what I saw.
But, I was sure that I had left my camera back at practice. I very specifically remembered putting it on top of the drum so it would be off the grass and it a visible location.
I tried the camera to see if it worked, but the battery was gone and I couldn’t see it anywhere. But, the front of the camera was pretty beat up.
I got the fuel and came back.
It turned out the person drumming for us had moved my camera and put it where they thought it would be found.
Ah well. He was trying to do a good deed by not leaving it on the ground to get stepped on.
But, I really wish he hadn’t put it on the roof of the car. Or, when I was driving off had said “look out, there is a camera on the car”.
I put one of the spare batteries in the camera. It does actually still work after hitting the ground at 40MPH.
But, the display is broken. And, there is no viewfinder.
So, I’m thinking I still have to replace it.
It is very sad as I’ve had this camera for years and really liked it.
But, as my wife said, it’s only a thing and more things can be replaced.
That’s very true. I’m still sad.

sorry about the camera. I know what it is like to loose one, especially when you use it so much.

My little Olympus water proof camera seems to be doing fine for me at the beach. It is nice am small and takes nice pics, even if it isn't as fast as my big NIKON.

I'm so sorry. It's SO frustrating to want to be mad and to know you can't really be mad because...blah blah social niceties, why do we DO that, anyway?

Woah, there. Lemme get down off the soap box I was about to climb up on.

I'm sorry about your camera. That sucks.

I did express that I was very unhappy about it to the person in question.
But, I really am not big on the punishment idea. I'm much bigger on the "make it better next time" idea.

And, I used what you had given me to cheer myself up...

I have long sinced learned, after losing favorite ski gloves, cell phone, and other bits, that the roof of any vehicle is really the LAST place that anyone should put anything.

Ever since I left my car keys up there I have been very careful not to do this.
But, I didn't put the camera there...
