Hog!

I saw our engineering tech at work standing behind the building looking at something.
When I asked him what he was looking at he said “the groundhog”.
Being a big fan of the day, I went and got my camera.
Sure enough there one was.


Apparently she’s dug a little burrow into the wall behind the building and has some groundpiglets there with her. (I didn’t see them, but the tech did before big blundering engineers came along.)
She seemed very interested in not letting us come much closer.


I tried to get a view from the other side, but she just ran in the burrow and mooned me.



I'm a bit worried for them as they are burrowing under the other company on that side of the building and the owner of that one didn't like the idea of groundhogs under his floor. But, it's a cement floor and it shouldn't be a problem. I hope that he doesn't try and get them out or make the landlord remove them.

We are defrosting one of the big freezers so I took some of the snow and put it in the corner thinking she needed water on such a hot day.

But nature apparently wanted to water the groundhogs too.


Much like last week, the storm really got going just before I reached home. And, although not as bad as last week, I still couldn’t see the other side of the valley.


At one point after I got home I looked outside.
“Is this the color of green the sky turned when you used to have tornadoes in Texas?” I asked.
“Yep, it’s pretty close,” she said.
But, I checked the weather information and it didn’t say anything about them. So, I guess Texas green is different from Massachusetts green.
I’m just as glad.

they do like carrots - or at least the ones we had back home really liked the carrots in our garden.

Cool!

At Pioneer Village Salem I was at last weekend, we had we think 2-3 different Mallard duck mothers with varying numbers of little ducklings coming up to the shore (a good sized, man-made pond is infront of the village area), and foraging for bugs and such.

We had fun feeding them junk-food (bread) both days. Some of them got pretty comfortable and eventually came up within 2 feet of us as we sat by the fire and hanging out. But if any of us made a sudden move or got up, momma duck scurried the ducklings away very quickly.
