Ironic

My allergies have been hitting me very hard this week. I have not had a good night’s sleep in more than a week and cough most of the time.
Today I work I was feeling particularly cruddy. My head hurt, my eyes burned, my throat ached and I was very tired. The idea of just telling my boss I wanted to go home floated through my head.
My boss walked out of his office and over to my desk.
“This is for you,” he said, handing me an envelope.
I opened it. It was a pretty big bonus check. Why? For not using a sick day all year long. It was issued by the corporate office on the west coast, so no way they hear my cough.
Yeah.
I stayed at work.
