Jose is a member of our sword troupe. He’s the one who almost put his eye out with a piece of straw last year when I tossed him on the ground in our fight. The good news is he wasn’t very hurt and healed well.
The better news is that yesterday he got married.

They got married at a Spanish church in Worcester. For various reasons my wife and I arrived there more than an hour early. Rather then wait in the church, we went across the street and had a nice sushi lunch. We got back well before the wedding started. The same could not be said for a whole bunch of people who thought the wedding was 1/2 hour later then it was and came marching in about 1/3 of the way through. But, the show went on and Jose and Jill got married.

Although the wedding was fairly close in Worcester, the reception was another 20 miles west through a storm of freezing rain.

But, it was a nice place.

My wife was wearing what I think was a very nice dress even if she didn’t seem that fond of it.

This is not the picture of us she liked best, but I like it.

They had three different wedding cakes. Other than visually looking different, I’m not sure if there was any other difference.

Most of the Phoenix Swords people were at table 9.

We were at table 7 with Sue, Tom and Brett.

We felt bad for a few of the folks stranded at the other table, but not that bad.

We have no idea who this guy in blue is.

But, he shows up in a lot of photos. I’m thinking he is some sort of ghost that haunts the hall and only shows up in photos.

This is not Tom’s wife.

I will say that the people at the table we didn’t know seemed very friendly.

I’m sure it is very fashionable, but the headpiece Jen wore made me think she had a head wound.

Casey, her husband, did not seem bothered by it.

To get to the bathroom you needed to pass under this buffalo. This seemed to confuse some of Jose’s relatives who gathered under it, pointing up and asking questions in Spanish.

I pushed past them and went into the bathroom. This seemed to break the spell and others soon followed.

There were lots of toasts, quite a bit of music and almost continual dancing.

The bride and groom seemed to enjoy it all.

I did particularly like one thing the priest who did the ceremony said.
“If you’re not coming up for communion, don’t just sit there. Pray for this couple and wish them a long happy marriage.”
I thought that was nice. Reminding people that we were there to help celebrate their getting married, not just to sit and watch. A subtle distinction, but still an important one.

Others have said they really liked the music and dancing. Not really my kind of thing.
I thought we had stayed quite late, but when we got out to the car it turned out to only be 8:00.
I know the reception only went until 9, but I was glad to get home before the roads froze over.

I do hope that Jose and Jill have a long happy marriage. They’re nice folks and I wish them the best.
