Home again, home again

Despite my being sick, the faire went well and everyone seemed to like our shows.
But, Sunday night I was very sick.
I tried to go to bed early, but it didn’t help.
At one point I coughed up so much phlegm that it literally filled my mouth. (Yes, disgusting. But that’s how bad it was.)
I can honestly say after dozens of these long drives with the troupe and many more over my life, I have never dreaded at 24 hour drive as much as I did that night.
But, I couldn’t call in sick for getting folks home. So, off we went.
Right into traffic.

Just north of Atlanta there was a HUGE traffic jam. We were in it for well over an hour. The people behind us even more.

When we finally got to the cause, it had been a tractor trailer that had rolled into the median.

While that’s horrible and and I feel really bad for the driver and hope no one was hurt, I’m glad it was something like that and not just construction that caused such problems.
This gas station in South Carolina is run by a very impolite asshole. I recommend using a different station.

We, of course, passed the peach again.

Getting Jose in and out of the far back seat took several helpers and the instruction to “tuck and roll”.

By Maryland I had given up trying to sleep in the back of the van and took over driving again. (Just as a note, the iPad is a mixed blessing when your boss sends you email to review on your personal email account on your vacation days...)

We did make decent time getting home and found traffic waiting for us in Worcester.

But, when we crossed the lake, it was the calmest I remember seeing it in years.

But, then Jose called to say he had forgotten stuff in the back of the van, despite us asking him several times if he had everything, so back to Worcester to drop it off.

Jose still hasn’t found his keys. I’m pretty sure they weren’t in the van, but have no idea where they might be.
After dropping off his stuff, my wife and I had a nice lunch at O’Connor’s and then went home to sleep.
I fell asleep about 6:30 PM, and slept for 12 hours until my alarm went off.
I’m glad to be home. I’ll be more glad when I kick this cold and catch up on my sleep.
