I'm torn about church.
I feel it's cheating to go without getting involved and pulling my weight.
But, I started going again to having something else to do with my wife. And, if she is not longer going to go, it is very difficult for me to really care about going too.
It's not a question of faith. I still believe in God. But, I worry about something that pulls my wife and me apart.
This is not a good time for that sort of thing.
We've both had problems with the church. I can't say that isn't true.
But, I'm not sure I'm willing to commit to it. And, I don't want to be a hypocrite by going and not helping.
It's something I've got to work out.

Date: 2008-01-15 02:32 pm (UTC)We have a simple rule at our church, which we aren't very good about following - if it is important to the congregation as a whole (rather than just one person), people (plural) from the congregation need to step up and support it - othewise it really wasn't important.
I'd also worry if you *didn't* have problems with your church now and again. If you never find any bad in an organization you belong to, you really need to examine your relationship to it.
The business of churches when you come down to it is to spiritually help people who are in need - sometimes you get to do the helping, and sometimes you have the spiritual task of accpetance....
