Although the sky was not cloudless, we got in the car and headed north to [livejournal.com profile] evrgreen and his wife’s place.

The weather was getting better as we headed north and rainbows proceeded us.

As far as I know, New Hampshire is the only state that puts a “safety rest area” next to a liquor store. Not sure what’s up with that...

But, it is a very nice state.

We got there just at sunset and the clouds were on their way out.

About 11, we headed out to try and see some meteors. We saw a few, but we knew the prime time was after midnight. So, once we were in the new day we packed up the telescope and headed to more open ground. We had a couple of choices.

We picked the baseball field, not the cow poop field. I think we made the right choice.

We set up the telescope, got a good look at Jupiter, it’s moons and clouds and lots of stars.

We did see some meteors, but not as many as we hoped. Two things prevented it. One, a fog came up that at one point made the stars fade out. (Very much like a Doctor Who episode where the stars go out.) Second, the moon rose and lit up the fog making it glow.

Now, a field of glowing fog is cool. But, not good for seeing meteors.
So, about 2 we packed it up and went back to their place.

In the morning we had very nice waffles and went back to the lake for more blueberries.

I took this photo after we had gotten a large bowl of them off of the tree. There was an amazing amount of them and they are quite good.

Once we had our berries, it was back to swimming in the lake for two and four legged folks.

The dogs like to find fish in the lake, and you can see them swimming along the bottom.

But, soon we were headed back home past the farms, giant corn and freaky ice cream places.

Given the traffic headed north for the weekend, I’m glad we went Thursday and came home Friday.

It was a very nice, if a bit short, visit and we had a great time. I’m very thankful for [livejournal.com profile] evrgreen and his wife letting us come up to share their lake and berries twice in a week!
