Shopping with other people’s money
Aug. 11th, 2009 01:27 pmOne of my wife’s students is looking to buy an Apple laptop. As I’ve owned several, I got to go along on the expedition to the Apple store to look for one for her.
On the way we had dinner at an Indian Restaurant along route 9. It’s a small place that looks like it used to be a diner. But, the food is good and wasn’t too expensive.

When I was growing up it was the Natick Mall and the most expensive store at it was Sears. 30 or more years ago they had a good toy store and good book store. Both are long gone now. Now it’s full of very posh stores where I’m not sure I can afford to window shop. They even have a fake forest in it with tree trunks but no branches. Very strange.

But, it is the closest Apple store to where we live.

We looked at the new MacBook Pro laptops. Very nice! It is the successor machine to the one I’ve got now. Not top of the line as that’s way too expensive. But, a very nice machine for the price. (Yes, I can’t lie, I’d like one too.)
She decided on what to get and they printed out the list of options and model numbers for her. I guess she’ll go back to get it before school starts.
In other news, my garden is not doing as well.

The mellon plant is getting brown leaves and spots on the ones that are still green.

The parsley, which I only planted to give the squirrel something to chew on so it would ignore the mellon, is doing very well and flowered. It’s enough to bring the bees around, which is I guess good on the 3rd floor.

The only other thing is the way folks came up with at practice to get people to keep their stance wide.

It seems to work.

Date: 2009-08-11 09:19 pm (UTC)I'd be a bit afraid of getting stepped on, fallen upon, or encounter a dropped sword. As a future suggestion, what about finding some big foam blocks or something that could be fit between the knees or thighs and secured with elastic or duct tape?
Everyone's melon plants are dying this summer from too much rain/not enough sun. I think that the locally grown watermelon supply will be smaller and more expensive this year.

And, most swords beak off to the side. Straight down is possible, but not likely.
I was thinking I had over watered the melons. Maybe if I cut back some.
