Where there is smoke
Jul. 26th, 2009 06:38 pmUsually we do a lot of fire shows in the summer. Last year it was 3 weekends of southern CT, a weekend in Maine and the Milford Oyster Festival over about 6 weeks. This year... Nothing. The faires aren’t happening this year and after the waterspouts last year I can’t blame Milford for cutting back.
But, we do have a big fire show schedule in September, so it is time to start fire practice.

It is the first time in a few months we’ve fueled up the toys, so they were burning hot and long.

As it’s been a long time for Tom, he had a lot of practice to do.

It looks much better when he uses fuel and ignites it.

It did leave

On the way home I was happy to see the main road in town was open again.

There are still some rough points.

I do have to say I’m not impressed with the new dumpster.

And, I wonder about the old video rental store.

From Blockbuster to a walk in medical center? Seems like a strange transition to me...

Glad to see 140 is mostly done...That was starting to get old.
The first picture...The sign says "Stop Ahead"...It's an Omen??
Nice fire-ball too! He's still got it.

Date: 2009-07-27 02:12 pm (UTC)None of our people do fire poi right now. i've seen a lot of tangles and wraps that would leave burns, so I'm not in a huge rush to add them. And, there are a number of other people who do them in our area, so I'd rather we stuck to stuff we're good at.
As I'm told our group has the reputation of being "safety Nazis", I feel the need to say: if you ever do try that with fire, make sure you've got safety people.

Date: 2009-07-28 12:39 pm (UTC)Oh - and Harmony and her Dad are pretty much safety Nazis as well. If you touch the poi at the fire show, or someone you brought touches the poi at a fire show, do not expect to be invited back ever again. No second chances.
And Harmony says that she has wrapped the poi around her arm, but that it's not as bad as it sounds, and she doesn't get burned.
