The job search
Jun. 29th, 2009 08:11 pmThe things I do can be broken down into:*
Answering adds
Mailing resume’s or DVD’s to companies I hope are hiring
Answering calls/emails from interested people
Going to interviews
So, here is how it has been going.
I know it looks like week 1 was gangbusters, but it wasn’t really. That was just me answering all the adds that were already in the system. After that it is new ads posted, which gives a better feel.
It’s sort of the same with mailings. When I started it, I used all the companies I had noted up to that point in being interesting. Since then it’s been new ones I’ve researched or others have sent me.
It's hard to say how much time that is. There are several different on line search engines. There are several different ways to research companies that do put in ads, or that I decide to send a cold mailing. Sometimes it takes minutes each, some times hours.
But, right now, I've got the time.
*(Yes, I have spent a lot of time networking and trying to contact people I’ve worked with before, but that it too tenuous to put into numbers. 3 people at the funeral are headhunters, hiring managers or other engineers. Does that count or not? I’m not even going to try and quantify things like that. Nor on line connections unless they come up with something that falls into one of the other categories.)
