More adventures in unemployment

Assumption College had an all day seminar today on business and job related issues. It was free, included lunch and had some interesting sounding lectures, so I signed up.
Sadly, the ones I wanted to go to (Viral Marketing and Job Hunting in the 21st Century) were both against each other after the first two lectures.
But, what the heck?
The first two didn’t sound very interesting to me. (How to get Banks to Loan you Money and The Psychology of Investing in a Down Economy.) But, both turned out to be fairly interesting.
The first was given by a woman who had been a loan officer in a major New York bank until last summer, and knew a lot about what really gets you the loan.
The second, although a paid financial planner who was giving out a lot of his marketing material himself, actually had psychological studies of why people make investment decisions based on studies of pain aversion.
I ended up doing the job hunting one instead of the marketing one.
Something there really got to me and gave me a pounding headache, so I skipped the free lunch and afternoon session and came home.
I don’t know if it was the plants, or things folks were wearing. But, I did feel better once I got home and took a couple of Advil.
There was one funny part of the job hunting in the 21st century when a woman in the audience told the woman giving the lecture she didn’t think it was proper to use the internet for sending resumes.
“Well, this is job hunting for the 21st century,” the woman giving the lecture said. “If you’re not comfortable with that, you can join one of the other lectures.”
The woman stayed.
It wasn’t of huge use to me. But, it was free. And, it was of more use then the job fair yesterday.
Now I’ve got to fix a problem I’ve got with one of the on line services I’ve joined. (Linkedin.com) They had a different AIS in their system then the one I’ve worked for over the last 6 years. So, I tried to fix that.
But, the one I worked for isn’t in there. So, I ended up getting rid of the wrong one and not being able to add the right one because they don’t list that company. And, you can’t list a company unless you currently work there.
Sad.
I sent an email to their help department. I don’t expect to hear until Monday.
We’ll see.
