A pen saved my OSHA certification
Feb. 10th, 2026 08:36 amI get a lot of pens. I went to a trade show yesterday and got a bunch.
They all have company names on them, and I rarely read what they are.
Last year, before the battery company went out of business, they gave everyone who may be part of installing the machines an OSHA training class. They made a big deal that we’d get OSHA cards proving we were safe around machines that were good for life and could use them any time in the future.
Then, they went out of business.
At my new company, the safety officer was pondering having folks who build equipment take that same class. But, I never got that training card for the one I took.
As I wrote out my rent check at the start of the month, I looked at the pen and realized I had gotten it from the company that did the OSHA training a year ago.
I contacted them using the information on the pen and found out the battery company had never paid them for the training.
But, if I was willing to pay for my own class cost, they’d send me the card.
I did. They did. I showed the card to my new company’s safety officer and he told me that I didn’t have to retake close to a week of safety training as I was able to prove I had already done it.
I guess it pays to look at the pens once in a while…
