A Halloween story

There was one Halloween about 20 years ago when it was very dark as I drove home from work. At that point, daylight savings time had ended before Halloween, so it was more than an hour after sunset as I drove through town going home.
I knew lots of kids would be out and they don’t always look where they are going, so I was driving slower than normal and looking around a lot, just in case.
As I came down one of the streets near our apartment, a car when right through their stop sign and pulled out across my path. Only the fact I was going slower than normal and paying extra attention let me avoid hitting them as they pulled right across the in front of me.
The woman driving that car rolled down her window and began a stream of expletives about how I should have stopped for her and let her out. She thought I had the stop sign, despite her coming out of a side road where it clearly pointed the direction she came from, not down the main road where I was.
“Screw you lady, I had the right of way!” I shouted back and gave her the finger. (See, I’m not a nice person sometimes…)
She screamed at me and stomped her gas pedal. But, she hadn’t completed her turn in front of me and went off the road into a large bush in front of the house on the other side of the street.
A nice person might have stopped to see if she was OK, but I did not.
I did see her pull out as I drove down the street, so I don’t think she was hurt.
The very next day a town work crew put up a second stop sign on that side road, so there was one on both the left and right side of their road. And, the next summer they increased the curb there to make it harder to drive straight out as now there is a bit of a turn right at the end of the road.
This leads me to think she went to the police to try and get them to go after me for not stopping for her stop sign and they told her she was in the wrong. She must have been very insistent about this for them to put up extra stop signs there.
