Iceland Part 2 in photos

Sunday morning we got up early, had breakfast and went back to the site.










There was not a lot to finish on it.











It was much less windy, which meant the bugs were out.


There were more tests on the test house too.








It was a great day for the tests.



Lots of folks crossed the stream to get a closer look of the tests.
The last one involved folks actually speaking the lines of the saga from inside the container as it burned.






A good number of folks showed up for the final test, including the woman from our hotel.


As the house was done, despite some last minute tweaks, we looked around the rest of the grounds some. There were other reenactors there, all were happy to see us.






The house was ready, and folks gathered for the boring.










And, there was a starting horn.


The, it was lit up.









It didn’t take long to prove no one could have lived inside for long. But, there was the question of more wood to be added.











But, the roof held…




So, what about more wood?





The doorway drooped some, but did not fall. Everyone was impressed.

Then, quite unexpectedly to me, marshmallows…




There was also youtube folks lighting cigars on the fire.


The house was not impressed…



But, that roof held. Turf is strong.


After 2 1/2 hours the firefighters decided it was time to stop.







High pressure foam was enough to take some of the roof down.


Sadly, we had to get to Reykjavik that night and it was a 3 hour drive, so we had to say our goodbyes while the turf still smoldered.


Then, the drive back down the coast.












We checked in to the hotel next to the airport. Not the best view…





Next morning, up and the 5 minute drive to the airport where everyone was sad to see us go.





Discount airlines. Not a lot of seating room.



Off we went to the US.




In good traffic the airport to home is less than an hour. But, two of three tunnels were closed and all sorts of traffic was there. So, it was more like three hours…
