My cousin Katie’s husband came up from Florida while passing through to visit other folks north of here. As Katie died last year, my wife and I have worried about him some, but he seemed to be doing OK.
We asked him what he wanted to do while in the area, and he answered the Boston Museum of fine arts (https://www.mfa.org/ ), so we picked him up at his hotel yesterday and headed in.

We got there just before it opened and before there was much of a line.

He wanted to see "Old things" so we took him to the ancient Chinese, Greek, Roman and Egyptian areas.
Big photo dump here…

I did like that the greek section specifically had something on how the pieces used to be painted and puts special marks on the descriptions of the ones that still have pigments.

And, of course, seats. They have more than just benches. I like this one where you sit on a nice couch and hear things said about the pieces in front of you.

And, just nice places to sit.

We did play "Spot the Bacchus" on a crowded sculpture.

I like the drinking bowls that when raised look like eyes.

This one is interesting as it looks like it was defaced at the time of construction. We speculated the person who commissioned it didn’t like it.

This one has always be a favorite.

My wife and I had wanted to come in for a specific exhibit.

It was very interesting.

I liked the images they had in the entranceway.

This sign was missing a letter, which I found odd. You’ve got to look closely to see it.

This one made me reflect on the sword fighting we do.

We are very sure we don’t sword fight like the original. Are we the reflection? The darkest shadow? One of the fainter ones? Just how close to the original are we? We’ll probably never know…

It was a nice visit. We go there reasonably often, but usually only to see new or special things. So, going with someone who hadn’t been there in 50 years was a good excuse for looking in more detail.
I had a lot of fun.
My wife and I have a membership that lets 4 folks go in at once. So, if any folks are in Boston and want to see the museum, let us know…
